EVENTS AND LOCATIONS
The Swampy Cree Suicide Prevention Team is in the process of developing Community Advisory Councils of 6-8 people within each of the Swampy Cree communities. The councils include members from various organizations and interests within the communities such as elders, youth, educators, health workers, clergy and band council. The purpose of these councils is to take a leadership role in developing community wellness and suicide prevention activities specific to each of the communities. The first step is to meet with Community Advisory Councils for several days to discuss programs and activities that are already happening in the communities and then to talk about what other programs might be helpful. During the 2-day meetings, Community Advisory Councils are also given a half-day suicide awareness training called safeTALK.
